All right, so that first post went well. I'd like to tip you off to an excellent resource for all English students. Jack Lynch, professor of English at Rutgers University, has a website entitled, "How To Get An A On An English Paper." There are no shortcuts here, but it is a really nice look at what consitutes a good thesis, how to read literature closely, and generally important things to English teachers of all shapes and sizes.
